DRP Aluminum Heads

Anybody have experience with these, or heard of issue with them? They are awfully cheap, and it SAYS they are made in Australia, Not China.

I have been leaning towards AFR 185's, but these are 1/3rd the cost, even though they are bare castings.

Just curious.

so no issues then? The ones I'm looking at are a 210cc set that says:

HEADS WILL FLOW APPROX. 280CFM INTAKE AND 225 CFM EXHAUST @600 LIFT

The might come from Australia, but they are made in China. You have to figure this out sooner or later, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. they can say anything they want about their performance and flow numbers, but why take a chance on something like a cylinder head( WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SINGLE ITEM ON YOUR ENGINE) just to save a few dollars. I get call everyday where the guy tells me he copied on of my engine builds but when he went to the drags, the performance was no where near what he expected.. Then he tells me he did not use the AFR heads like I did, but his were SUPPOSED to be almost as good. REmember this, it will cost WAY MORE if you have to buy better heads the second time around.

I agree Joe. I know better, but thought I'd ask. As I mentioned, I will hold out for the AFR's.

Of which I'm torn.

Joe,

Do I go with the 185's for the 306 I have. Or should I go with the 205's or 225's since I will do a future buildup of your Sherminator 347, based on the Hi-Po block and accessories I have now.

I know they (205's - 225's) are probably WAY overkill for my 306 with a 232@.050 cam, but I only want to buy good heads once.

The 347 will be Drag and Road Raced.

The AFR 205 would be my first choice If I were you. There are somethings you should be made aware of. The biggest differance between an AFR 185 and the 205 is the fact that the 205 have upgraded valves and roller springs included for the price.This means that if you up grade thew 185 valves and springs, they will cost about the same. You did not say what you use your car for, but the bigger heads are pretty much of a waste on your 302 size motor. You could buy the heads but dont even put them on untill you make the 347 engine. Remember that it is the whole combination of parts that will make your engine really run hard.

DRP's house brand are ProComp heads. I personally have lots of experience with the ProComps, using a set of cleaned up 210's for a couple of years and reached a performance roadblock. I then later swapped to a set of AFR 205's. There was a noticable performance gain.

I agree with Joe in that either of these heads might be too much until you build a stroker.
