Brake Light Gremlins - Help

Got a 73 torino. Been troubleshooting the lighting system. Many successes but I'm stuck with a brake light problem.... They're not working. All the rear bulbs are lit when the headlights are on and I have the correct dual filament bulbs.

There is no 12V power at the two wires that connect to the brake light switch on the brake pedal. There's no fuse for the brake lights specifically that I can see, besides they all have power and nothing's burnt out.

Any ideas? Thanks.

The brake light feed also goes through the signal light switch, perhaps before it gets to the brake switch. From there is goes through the brake switch. There are both fuses and fusible links.

Scott,
Thanks. I noticed the hazards aren't working but the signals are. I've got my turn signal cam/switch removed, I was gonna pick up a new one to eliminate that possibility. I'll check for fusible links.

Thanks,
Jon

Be sure to check in the steering wheel like mentioned before. I believe the wires are green with red dots or something close to that. I was having issues and actually cut a connector off and just hardwired it to eliminate the problem. Oh and if you remove the gauges its a lot easier to follow the wires.

Re: Brake Light Gremlins - Help

Thanks guys. Went out for some beers with a friend, came home, crawled under the dash to get started and I saw there was NO fuse in the "emergency flasher" socket. I'm not sure how I overlooked that, but that licked the last of my lighting issues. Brakes/Hazards work now.

Changed out the headlight switch and replaced all the bulbs in my gauge cluster. Feels great to gave everything working. Makes a big difference when you replace 30 year old bulbs with new ones and clean all the lenses.
