6-Year Shelf Life on Tires?

Someone at work sent me this link today. It's a video of an ABC News investigative report on tire failures in tires over 6 years old, even though they may have just been purchased from a dealer. Anyone know anything about this?

Tires deteriorate over time. Do an internet search and you will find lots of info about this.

I was familiar with tires dry-rotting, but I guess it kind of surprised me that they could be out of date when they were just purchased.

Re: 6-Year Shelf Life on Tires?

Tires have a date code on the side telling the month and year of build. They are the last four numbers after the DOT markings
