Lunati Voodo Cams

Lunati Voodo Cams. Asymetrical lobes. Supposed to ease valve seating. Nice price also. Gimmick or good Cam? Hunting for a good streetable cam for my fresh 347 shortblock.
Thanks, Jason

I have a 289 and a voodoo 6100 about 2 years old. I talked to Comp and Lunatti. Some high energy cams did have a slight mechanical sound like they were abusing the valve train. Today I am still satisfied. It idles well and has great vacuum. When I first got itn I thought they sent the wrong cam since it ran so nice at low RPM. I shift it 6100 to 6300 and it will pull higher. Very nice power band.

Re: Lunati Voodo Cams

Thanks, IWM
I'm looking at hydraulic roller cams though and don't need to turn much past 6 with the stroker. My pistons accept valve lift up to .600. I'm looking a Lunati Voodoo PN (LUN-55125LUN): lift .535/.544, LSA 112, RPM range 2200-6200, Duration @.050 lift 224/234. Sounds healthy, but not too big.
They're claiming smooth operation and a broad powerband. But perhaps, a cam designed with strokers in mind is the best way to go.
Thanks

Re: Lunati Voodo Cams

Not speaking to the Vodoo Cams (although they appear to be excellent grinds), but Comp Cams has been using asymetrical lobe designs for well over 20 years. No gimmick. The lobe throws the valve open and then the lifter chases it down on the closing side. The noise you tend to hear is the valve slamming shut. Ran a XE274 X-treme w/ Scorpion roller rockers in the 351W in my old '72. It did have some valvetrain noise, but would twist right up to 6300+ without busting a sweat.

Re: Lunati Voodo Cams

When I was running Chev's I always wondered about the cam specs. They did not really break them down by size at the time. So if you had a 283 or a 400 the description was the same. The stroker cam thing is probably for our benefit because of that. I talked to a man that said he worked for comp and was hired by Holley at the time to design the Lunati cams. He is the one that said the VooDoo was ahead of the Comps at that time. He also said their goal was to make more power and be easier on the valve train. And Comp had the highest failure rate on high energy cams. I can not say if it is true but I am getting a roller block and will look at them again.

Re: Lunati Voodo Cams

Woops! Sorry guys, the grind I was looking at is a hydraulic flat tappet cam. I assumed incorrectly that it was a roller since it was for 5.0 H.O. engines. I'll still be checking out some of Lunati's other offerings. Thanks.
