351w swap

Hey new guy here,
I have a bunch of questions on a swap I'm doing, so any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1989 GT mustang I'm putting a C4 transmission and a 351w carbed motor in.

The motor is complete carb to pan and has the correct oil pan and headers for the car, but thats it.

first off what about motor mounts will the ones off the 5.0 work?

What about fuel delivery?
I know the factory EFI pump wont work without running a return, correct?

Can I disable the EFI pump and just hook up a Holley blue inline pump up on the existing fuel line?

Will the stock tranny crossmember work with a C4, and what about the stock driveshaft? Will I have to get a new one made or have that one cut?
It has a AOD in it now that I'm going to remove.

The motor has a older dura spark distributor, how do I go about hooking it up to the TFI wiring>?
I know I missed something If I can remember I'll repost later, Thanks a bunch for any help with this.

Later, Charlie

Hey Charlie, yes, those will work.

Right, and it already has as return line. All you need is a low pressure (return-style or bypass) regulator.

You could, but it would be easier and cheaper to do the FPR. The pump would have to be removed - not just disabled - and that means removing the tank and fitting a bypass line in the pickup. Yech. You know, you could also place the FPR at the fuel tank and have it return right there, eliminating the long return line. Watch for typical low pressure dead-head vapor lock issues with that, though.

Generally, you'll need to modify your existing crossmember to move the mount forward and up, and the driveshaft may need lengthening or a companion flange spacer, but it's all dependent on your existing dimensions. There are some good articles about this in the forums and tech articles sections.

You don't. TFI works with an EEC. Duraspark works with a Duraspark box and no EEC, especially in teh earlier years. Easy stuff with the box and wiring from the wreckers. Be sure to get the wiring, as different year systems used different wiring schemes and the coil is sometimes special as well. If you want to use the TFI coil, you can use the diagram here in most cases.

Re: 351w swap

Ok thx for the info but you lost me alittle on the TFI reply.
The car has a Msd 6al now thats hooked uo to the OEM TFI< now should I go with the duraspark unit or just get a new msd drop in dist?
You say that I can use the stock EFI pump and regulate it down and use the existing return lines, correct? Sorry I'm not hard headed - just slow...lol Thx again, Charlie

Re: 351w swap

With the 6AL you don't need the duraspark brain box. I'd just get a different coil for use with the MSD instead of the OEM crap.

I have the MSD blaster replacement E-core coil on the car now, will that work with the duraspark and 6al? or do I need to get a standard oil filled coil.
