Re: MSD distributor owners take a look please.

As mentioned before the installed dimension from bottom surface of gear to housing flange is very critical, if in doubt check a shop manual.
If in doubt send it back to MSD for a professional installation.

Is my eyesight failing or is the tooth contact surface scored????? where it meshes with the camshaft.

I would have MSD use a MSD steel gear and install it properly.

I would also drill a .030 orifice in the left bank lifter oil galley to supply additional lubrication to the distributor gear, thats if the engine is not assembled. Bill

Re: MSD distributor owners take a look please.

I see your using a solid roller cam in your signature. The steel gear needs replaced with a brass gear to save the life of your cam gear.

Jay told me I could use a bronze or steel gear with the billet cam..Just not a cast iron gear...This distributor was in a motor with a big solid roller billet cam as well.....Having said all of that I have been considering switching it to brass..Just not too sure on life expectancy on the street?

Re: MSD distributor owners take a look please.

I found this thread. It might help your decision Steel or Brass. My application requires brass. The brass gear failure I had didn't do any damage to my engine. Just replaced Distributor gear cleaned off the cam gear and changed oil. I would rather replace a $28.00 Distributor gear than a $500.00 cam....but that's just me LOL. J/K. Good info on this thread though.
