I am not familiar with autometer gauges. I did a '66 GT gauge cluster retrofit on my car with white faces and then made a board that has 3 SS voltage regulators on it, one for each gauge and the regulators are adjustable so I can calibrate the gauges

Re: Fuel gauge help
I'm using a Jaz fuel cell with the Ford sender (70-10 Ohm) and the guage is stock '65 Ford Falcon dash unit. I'm assuming the "Ford sending unit" they included is the right one, otherwise I'm looking at the wrong stuff I guess.
I'll get out there today and check the connections, ground, etc. to make sure it's not that.

Re: Fuel gauge help
did you unhook the wire that goes to the tank [on the tank end ]-leave it hooked to the dash end -- ground the wire leading back to the dash -- the guage should go to full--- unhook and ground that wire and tell us what the guage does
is the constance voltage reg still hooked into tha line--

Re: Fuel gauge help
I checked the ground and re-did it just for kicks. I then grounded the sending unit wire and it did make the guage read full. Putting back on it still reads 1/4 to 1/2.
I have no voltage regulator on the car as I switched over to a one wire alternator.

Re: Fuel gauge help
ok --grounded it went to full- the guage is good --the sending unit is bad-- --
the regulator i ment is the constant voltage reg that is in line with the fuel guage -its up under the dash and is about 1 inch long and about 1/2 inch wide-- if the guage went to full the reg is good -- --either the tank isnt grounded or the sending unit is bad- or the wrong om for the guage--

Re: Fuel gauge help
it also could be you bent the float rod installing it --or it needs to be bent down to make the gauge read higher

Re: Fuel gauge help
It was a brand new tank installation and the sending unit was pre-installed. The other issue is that it's a foam filled tank so I can't even see the sending unit. I believe it's a "tube style" sender so I'm not even sure if it has a float arm to bend. I thought it was a straight up/down movement type of thing.

The VR that powers the gauges is a little 3/4" by 1" can on the gauge cluster. Unless you have aftermarket gauges, you still have a VR, just one less because you have eliminated the charging circuit VR with the 1 wire alternator (which just has the VR built into it).

Re: Fuel gauge help
I'm so electrically challanged it's probably best if I just run the car down to an auto shop fo this. I was hoping for a simple fix but it sounds like I'm wasting all of your time since I really don't understand most of what you're telling me. Sorry. I can build a whole car but when it comes to volts, amps & ohms I'm completly lost.

Re: Fuel gauge help
Where can a person pick up a new regulator?
