Most Mustang supply houses sell them.

Re: Fuel gauge help
The voltage reducer on all 61-65 fords is adjustable. You fill the tank, then slowly adjust the voltage regulator until the indicator needle reaches the Full mark. If it goes too high you back it off a bit.
There is a stem sticking out of the back of the regulator that screws to the back of your cluster, screwing it IN makes the voltage go UP and screwing it OUT makes the voltage go down. Do it slowly over a minute or so between adjustments with the key on.
This only works if your gauge is out of calibration but still works. It's the same for the Temper5ature gauge, they both run on the same voltage.

Re: Fuel gauge help
Thank you, I'll check that out! I had hoped for a simple resolution to this problem and maybe, just maybe this is it!
I'm sure it's going to be hard see, what exactly am I feeling for, is it a hand deal or am I looking for a screw in/out thing-a-ma-jig, to put it in simple terms?
You da man!
John

Re: Fuel gauge help
Looks like this--->
It's the ONLY thing on the back of the voltage regulator other than the male and female wire attachments...

Re: Fuel gauge help
Do I need to pull the instrument cluster out to do this or can I adjust it from up under the dash?
Thanks guys, I really appreciate your help on this!

Re: Fuel gauge help
Thanks Rcode!!! I never seen that before and now I don't have to draw any more pictures!
YES, you gotta pull the cluster. The regulator is bolted to the back cover. two black wires with a green stripe go into it.

Re: Fuel gauge help
I tried looking for voltage regulators at Dearborn and Autokrafters and came up empty. Anyone else know where I might get one for a '69?

The voltage regulator works by closing (12v) then opening (0 volts) then closing (12v) and opening (0v). With an ohm meter on the connections the meter will be jumping all over the place. The VR is just a bi-metal switch very much like a turn signal blinker.

I hope I dont sound like an idiot asking this, in fear it may have already been covered but maybe it will help, so here it goes...
The senders on the fuel cells are NOT for early ford gages. They are the 70-10ohm senders. Early Fords run off of a 90ohm factory sender. What you can do is buy a fuel gage for a late model (1986 or newer type) Ford application and mount it in your glove box or trunk. A new gage (70 ohm type) is only about 30 bucks or so from Jegs, summit, etc. This is what I did and it reads correctly. Didnt bend the sender rod or rewire anything. Just got a compatible fuel gage for the fuel cell.
Again, hope Im not beating a dead horse here, but sounds like the problem.
