Manual Disc Brakes Master Cylinder

I am in need of a MC to power my TCI Mustang II conversion on the front and a 2000 Explorer disc brake rear end. The best tip I have had so far means using a 68 VETTE mc from a 4 wheel disc, manual car. I would prefer to use as many Ford parts as possible but need some help here!
Thanks!

Re: Manual Disc Brakes Master Cylinder

I have been searching for the same answer. I have a manual disc Granada master now and I think some guys are using them. A lot of jeep guys use that rear and from what I was seeing many used their stock front disc master. I am swapping the disc rear in now. Any body use a front disc master?

Re: Manual Disc Brakes Master Cylinder

I just installed a new master on my 66 Convt with 71 Mach 1 discs on the front and Stainless Steel discs on the rear. This is the third master I have tried with 4 wheel disc manual. This one is a Scott Drake Mustang modified one, they sell it with part # C7ZZ-2140-4WDB through Mustang Depot. Its not cheap, but it does work well and stops the car. I just got to fix some leaky fittings. Not sure what the master was originally for, it looks similar to a Ford. The one thing I did notice is that the mounting holes were re-drilled to match the Mustangs mounting distance between holes.

I have a 64 Fairlane with SSBC front disc and Wilwood rears. I use Strange Engineering' 1.125 bore master cylinder. Its what they recommended and it works.

Were either of the first two masters for stock front discs and what happened? When I think about the physics it would seem that a single piston disc should not need more fluid than a drum brake. The area may be larger but the travel is much less. As you wear the disc pads I can see needing more fluid to compensate for the piston moving in vs a drum set up. So if you monitored the fluid in my mind the drum reservoir would work?

Re: Manual Disc Brakes Master Cylinder

SSBC makes a manual disk brake MC that works well for my four disk setup. And it looks like a Ford MC.

The first one was actually a standard drum brake dual cyl for a 67 Mustang with the round bowl/cover. It did work, hard pedal, but it leaked, I screwed up the seats when I removed them looking for the residual valves/duck bills. The second was for a 76 Fairmont with manual discs, it was remanufactured, the pedal was real spongy and almost to the floor, even after numerous bleedings. It would stop the car, but not under a panic situation. Since its the wifes car I decided to put a decent one on that is for 4 wheel manual discs.
