302 over heating

Over heating Ford Vinatge 302. I have swapped the radiator, thermostat, water pump and ??? Not sure what is going on... The motor was supposed to be a fresh rebuild when purchased.... We all know how that goes right??? This is my first hot rod build... Though I am really lost I am really determined to figure this out. HELP ME PLEASSE Early 70's motor.... It gets hot in 10 minutes in 60 degree weather.... motor hot to the touch and radiator is cool to the touch... I dont think it is circulating the coolant..... I know there are supposed to be 2 rotations for the waterpump.... How can I tell whats right?? Ther previous owner told me this was a 1970... I am thinking he is incorrect even though the new water pump fit.... I did put in a new alum. 2 core.. I know everyone says these are weak but this is in a old Model T.... I just want to cruise not burn up the roads....

If the head gaskets are on correctly there will be a little tab on the lower front corner of the gasket that will be visible sticking out from underneath the head...I tried to find a picture but didn't have any luck..

If the radiator is cool you are correct that it is not circulating. Is it a v belt or serpentine set up? Are you sure the stat is in correct and full of coolant. From there I have used both pumps and am not sure of a way to identify other than pull it off and look. Since you just bought a new pump what was the application you asked for. Tell us what the pump is for and then we will know rotation.

Well the guy I bought it from told me it was a 1970 motor... So I used that year in Galaxy 500 model to get a water pump... See the water pump I took off was also allowing the overheating as well.... Cheap place start but so i did.... The motor is a V velt going from crank/alt. and water pump... I thought it could be the stat... I put on in (185 I think) and thought maybe it was even faulty of 2 high rated and replaced that new one with @ 165 or 160..... I am keeping a positive out look here.... Good thing it is my winter project and not my transportaion...... I bought this thinking the motor and trans were sound and I could do the rest.... JUST REBUILT the C4..... I have no luck with this stuff...... I should stick to painting them and not wrenching them I guess

How hot is it actually getting? Is there a tempurature gauge? Also, let's see some pics of this beast.

Re: 302 over heating

HI
the 160/165 stat may be to low but I don't thats the problem sence the radiator is cool and the block is getting hot..
in the pic it looks like the block sticking out from the heads and no gasket on it?
You might have to pull the heads and try new gaskets. How much is it over bored?
good luck
tim
