Re: T5 Conversion "Help"
I had a problem with my diaphram type clutch in the 66 Fastback. However, this may not apply in your case since I was using the stock Z-bar setup. My car acted similar to a pilot bearing going up in that the input shaft seemed to be spinning with the clutch depressed; making it hard to go into gear. I found out that the clutch fingers were being depressed too far and were contacting the the rear of the clutch disc. Either the contact between the fingers and the disc itself kept the input shaft turning; or there was enough depression to cause the disc to rub against the flywheel with the same result. When I tore it down, I could see evidence of the "rubbing" between the diaphram finger tips and the rear of the clutch disc. I adjusted the clutch linkage so that it wouldn't push the throwout bearing so far forward.
