what cam to use?

i'm looking at 2 differnt camshafts. it's for a for big block 460, weiand stealth intake holley 4160 carb. right now factory cast iron manifold but will upgrade to long tube header before too long. also gonna do very little to no hauling. was gonna go with the bigger cam but i'm leanign toward the more agressive idle. what does everyone else feel? and can i use my stock vaule springs for either of these cams?

Lift: .470/.470
Duration: 278/290
Duration @ .050": 218/218
Lobe Separation: 114 LC
Fair idle quality with lope. Good mid-range torque and response in 2400 - 3200 RPM range. Operating power range 2000 - 4800 RPM. Good fuel economy cam with correct equipment. Good choice for light towing. Compression 10.3 to 1 or less. Will work with stock or slightly modified engine, stock automatic or manual transmission. Recommended spring pressure 110 lbs for valve on seat; 280 lbs for valve open. Axle ratio 3.70 to 1 or higher is best. Recommended for mild bracket racing.

If those are the only 2 choices, then the bigger one for certain.

Re: what cam to use?

The stock cam is 273°/287°@S.A.E. - 193°/206°@.050" - .437"/.480" valve lift - 113° separation, ground on 110° intake center line. - in the engine at 118° intake center line. Got that from another very trusted person on a different forum. Both the cams you have listed are pretty small for a big block. First one looks to be a small block Chevy design. Second is better but still small for the Weiand intake. A better intake for it would be a Edelbrock Performer. Post what you want this engine to do so as to get a better cam recommendation from some one. The low compression and stock heads will limit the selection a lot.

Re: what cam to use?

I've always heard the Comp Cams 268H cam was a good sounding/good performing cam on a small block. Not sure about on a 460.
