what size stall do i need for my c6?

i'm going to buy this cam and all the info i know about it is. doesn't say what size just high stall. and the big question is what size is high? it's a 460 going into a 77 f100 reg. cab long bed. almost all street just a fun toy so to say.

Lift: .563/.588
Duration: 300/310
Duration @ .050": 234/244
Lobe Separation: 112 LC
Lopey idle, Good mid-range power
Rough idle quality - (Note: Intake vacuum may be too low for power brakes, etc.) Good mid-range torque in 3000 - 4000 RPM range. Good mid-range power operating range 2200 - 5400 RPM. Average fuel economy cam not recommended for towing. Increased compression ratio best, 10.5 to 1 or 11.0 to 1. Some engine modification required. Use manual or automatic transmission with high stall converter. Recommended spring pressure 120 lbs for valve on seat; 300 lbs for valve open. Axle ratio at 3.90 to 4.50 to 1 is best.

Re: what size stall do i need for my c6?

For street use you have to decide what you cruising RPM is going to be - your torque starts in at about 3000 and peaks at around 4000 so For most applications as long as you are not hauling loads you can go with a 3000 rpm stall. You also need some steep gears - 3.7 to 4.0 would be best.
You will also need a lot of extra cooling - get the biggest trans cooler you can buy.

Re: what size stall do i need for my c6?

I had a VERY similar camshaft (what brand and # is yours??) in my old '83 F100. It "liked" about 2600-2800 stall speed in the C6. Eventually that cam made it into a 514...with the same converter it was a handfull at full throttle and with 3.89 gears. I put a stock converter back in (came out of a School bus) that stalled 2000-2100 behind the same 514 (flash stall) but it was a LOT tamer, especially after I swapped in the 2.47 rear gear. Ran the 1/8 mile track in low gear and still ran some 7.90's and 8.0's on street tires. Never ran it with the other converter and 3.89's...though it was a LOT quicker.

Good luck
