66 Mercury Monterey Starting Problem
I picked this car up sat 20 yrs i wanted to see if it would turn the motor, got new battery, crossed the big hot and 1 small post on Selonoid and the first try with key just got a weird noise. Then i got a new selonoid, and put it i thinking the old one was bad,but i had the same thing a weird Springy Boing sound from firewall box. That box is mounter on the firewall beside the drivers hood hinge.at that box there's 2 small bottom clips and in the center is a Tiny plate with a screw. From that screw is a wire that leads to a 1 by 1 by 3/4 in.tiny metal box and im not even sure what the tiny little metal box is that's attached to big positive of selonoid or it's purpose.I got a new selonoid thinking the old one was bad,but i had the same result that boing sound comming from the firewall box,1 of the bottom clips leads into the car possibly onto the ignition im not positive. If i take the 2 small wires from the selonoid and reverse them i turn the key,and it gets' just to the mark before start and it automatically starts to turn over but it's not like a normal starting,i dont even get a chance to turn the key fully and release it as normal ,as soon as it get's to the last mark it turns right away.Im just not sure what could be going on unless i reverse the front post wires the key dosent do anything except i hear that boing sound.I believe that 1 wire from the 1 small clip leads into possibly to the stater im not positive, this car is crank windows, and someoone said the firewall box may be a power window box? Thanks Jim
