Bondo Free Antenna Delete Process

This is a step by step on how to take that nasty hole out of your fender when you want to get rid of your fender mounted antenna.

Step 1: Find an offensive hole, sand to metal around it and take a picture.

Step 2: Grab some scrap metal and cut it! (Galvanized is fine)

Step 3: Form the metal to perfectly match the curvature of the fender (or cowl or quarter panel)

Step 4: Color in the soon to be offending metal and or trace your pattern and cut it out to fit

Step 5: Carefully clean the edges of the edges of the hole and stick that new piece right up in there.

Step 6: Tack into place with only a slight tap of the Mig.

Step 7: Slowly weld and dolly until it is one solid unit, then weld the back side the same and grind off the welds, and dolly any inconsistencies to match the curvature of the metal (or the flatness)

Step 8: Pat yourself on the back after grinding off the high spots and you're ready for primer!

Viollah.... Nothing a little primer wont' take care of....

Enjoy,

FE

Very very nice work, excellent. I too have that offending Ant hole I have been eyeballing.

Really nice "How-to"

What hurts ... 5, 10, 20 years from now - someone will restore that fender and start by drilling the antenna hole out.

Re: Bondo Free Antenna Delete Process

Thats a great fix, if only i;d seen that before i went to paint, actually, when I picked up the car & did an OH NO!!totally forgetting that ant. hole
They used to make, a kind of a metal button, you could pop into the antenna hole, can;t find em now,
I;m stumped as to a fix After paint!

There were buttons and there were plugs that got a 4 point spot seld then bondo, but I like my way..

Beo's right, it's likely going to get "corrected" by the next owner in the future
