C5 to C4

I need some info on doing this. I've read most of the archives but I have a C5 and I'm under the impression that some of the internals are better than the C4. What I'd like to do is combine the two to make one. This will be my first foray into rebuilding a trans. A few stipulations are must use the bell and input shaft from the C4 cause the converter I bought is for the 157 tooth flexplate, small bell, also I want it to 1) bark the tires in all gears. 2) take up to 500hp. 3) NOT need rebuilt again.

Thanks in advance for your reply

Morgan

i believe all the C5's are pan fill trannys and are 164 tooth ring gear and the big bellhiousing. But im not positive. If you have a C5 and its pan fill your bell and ring gear wont work

I just looked at you page http://www.therangerstation.com/c4vsC5.html
and my C5 doesn't have the hump in the pan like on your page.

pay attention to clutch clearances, and endplay.I think the c-5 cases are better than c-4 because there newer, and the direct clutch will hold extra clutch over c-4 with spring steel removed, good luck!

As is typical with Ford, all combinations are possible. RPM just got a pan fill small case C5. The good stuff, if you can use the small case version, includes the input shaft (relieved for more oil flow), the already mentioned case with its larger oil passages and #9 thrust oil hole, the sun gear has larger oil passages, the already mentioned clutch drum, and the servos are big. Just switch to a C4 vb and torque convertor, rebuild it with good frictions, tight clearances and a TransGo shift kit and I think you are in business. IMHO anyway.

Does that mean the "N" servo is bigger than the "H"??

sorry SCTBIRD92
i bought a rebuild kit fromhttp://www.northernautoparts.com/had some steels ground down to .061 for the extra clutches,i used the direct hub from a C4.I think i have 6 clutches in the direct and 5 in the other(my memory fading). And a B&M transpak in the comp mode. With 3:70 gears it hammere 2 and 3 hard with NO flare ups even with the "A" servo
