tranny rebuild/hydraulic press

where do all you guys rebuilding your own trannies get access to a hydraulic press...do you own one, know somebody, or what?? i might be rebuilding my c4 tranny next spring, so i'm kind of curious. i know a guy that owns one, but i'm not sure how i've i'd have access to it. any other special tools i might need?? just trying to plan ahead, since i've never rebuilt one before.

Rebuilt my C4 with no press, so it can be done. But a arbor press would of helped but not a must. New bearings can be pressed in using a nut & bolt and the clutch pack spring can be compressed with clamps.

what about gears, do they have to be pressed on??

You don't any presses to work on a C4. Thre are no bearings to press on and off. The only tool you need can be made. It is for the forward clutch pack. You will need maybe one or both types of snap ring pliers, Horseshoe and inerternal/external.

I made the tool to remove the piston from the forward clutch pack from some scrap steel and a piece of threaded rod. If you have a welder or a buddy that has one, you can make it in less than 30 minutes with the cutting and drilling and welding. I will try to take a pic of it here soon and post it.
