Billet or forged foreward drum and aftermarket direct drum...

I need to find and order a C4 direct and foreward drum but I don't remember what companies had what. I think I remember seeing someone made an aluminum direct C4 drum which took 7 or 8 clutches and a different company that had billet or forged foreward drums. I need these within 2 weeks so I can put together a nasty little C4 for a friend. Can anyone help with company names or sources?
Thanks

KENT

ProTrans in Lancaster, CA has a billet aluminum drop-in 7 clutch direct drum that takes AOD clutches. Their number is (661)940-7400

I've had one in my racecar for a couple years and I've never had a bit of trouble with it. It's run 8.32 at 161 with my 'lil ole C4 (2690#). The drum , good input shaft and a PA billet brake are about the only aftermarket parts in it.

I guess the image won't load, but you can see it at:

Greg, I called Art Carr and found out they no longer sell just the billet drum. You can only get a complete billet foreward drum assembly for $175 which includes 5 red Alto clutches and a caged #3 roller bearing assembled. They were unaware of a Alto 6 clutch power pack being available for the foreward and direct drums. I will get one ordered tomorrow or Friday.

turbojoe, thanks for the info and phone number. Qtrmiler told me you had a Pinto that was in Hot Rod magazine. I like your Focus What are you running in that thing? I called Pro Trans and talked for nearly 1 1/2 hours. He is supposed to call me back with the prices on the assembled billet aluminum direct drums. Very nice and helpfull people for sure.

One takes stock C4 clutches and apply piston while the other uses a custom piston that's larger for more apply area and uses the mentioned 7 AOD red Alto clutches and Kolene steels. The AOD cluch direct drum has a larger O.D. and must use a intermediate flex band because of the larger diameter. The rigid intermediate band won't work on that drum. He uses rollers and #2 thru #9 which allows "0" endplay and lets the direct drum float using .005-.008" endplay since the #2 roller now takes all the thrust load and not the direct drum bushing flange as stock does. Assemble the trans minus the direct drum and set endplay at "0" ONLY if using rollers all the way thru to #9. Then put the direct in for the .005-.008" endplay and let it "float". I will get more info later.

Yep, that's my Pinto...the silver-blue one. April '99.

The Focus goes pretty deep in the 8's at 160+. Power windows, all glass and steel, factory CD changer and door chime...2690 pounds. Not bad for a Pinto motor and a C4.

Pro Trans rocks. They're not a real high profile place. They mostly just make gearsets, plants, drums and such for a bunch of the big trans companies. Building trannies for them is almost a side job -- they do it as they can, but when they do it, they do it better than just about anybody.

I loved that car! Something about stompin' a V-8 Chevy on the giggle gas with a 4-popper Wish you were here when I had all my SVO problems, might have kept the thing.

I somewhat remember that Pinto now. I think I still have that issue. Are you running a turbo 2.3 in the Focus? If so, that is incomprehensible that you can turn those times with a 2.3 with that car weight.

I kow where there's an all steel, full interior SVO in the 9's & a stroked 2.3 to a 2.5 in a loaded T-Bird in the 8's... all in the $$$

But still, that's quick. I would'nt be as surprised if the car weighed around 1800-2200#s like Alfredo's Nissan or Toyota(what ever it was) was but almost 2700#s and 8.60s is cookin for a 4 popper. Ouch!
