I run 5/16" until I get close to the cooler, then switch to 3/8 because most coolers are 3/8". Go figure. Gotta be thought up by the same people that gave us 8 hot dogs in a pack/10 buns in a bag.

3/8" would be best or "#6" if you are using a 4000 stall or more to get rid of the heat inside the converter when racing. Heat will affect the converter efficiency if the fluid overheats inside the converter even if the fluid in the pan is cool. Fresh cool fluid needs to replace the hot fluid in the converter and quickly as possible. 5/16" is the size of the internal cooler line passages inside the C4 case so without drilling those passages larger and tapping the cooler fitting holes out to 3/8" pipe you won'tgain hardly anything by going larger than 5/16" cooler lines.
