Need C5 help forward gears slipping reverse ok.

I have a C5 trans in an 83 ranger 4x4. Trans problems started when the trans was cold, all of the forward gears would shift either manualy or in drive but started slipping. Reverse works fine. After 10 t0 15 min of driving the slipping would stop and trans was fine until cold again. This has been getting worse for a few months until now. When cold, all gears seem to shift but forward gears slip and truck will not move. Reverse is still fine. Band adjustments did not help. I pulled the pan and there is just a tiny amount of clutch or band material in the fluid. No metal or sludge in pan or fluid. Is this clutches, servo, seals or how do I test to find the problem? Also, I have read many posts on band adjustments that say to snug the adjuster tight and torque to 10 inch pounds. My adjuster fine thread and is hard to turn with a small wrench when it engages the band or servo, but never seems to snug tight as some posts refer to.
