leaking from pan

no matter what i do my brand new tci streetfighter c4 leaks from the pan. i use gasket and rtv and it still manages to leak a couple drops every hour. and it really is startign to piss me off. my question is if im not overtourqing and warpming the pan and i am using rtv what could cause it to leak. do the pan bolt holes go all the way through the case? i cant remember should i try rtv on the bolt threads?

I have the same problem with an aftermarket deep pan. Is yours an aftermarket? Is the flange on the Pan curved up were the bolts go through. Mine are and I think that if you flaten them with a ballpen hammer it would help this is what I am going to try. I would like to know what others think.

DO NOT EVER use RTV on a trans! Anywhere! Good way to screw up a trans. That stuff squishes into the pan and clogs things up. Fix the leaks with a gasket or pan change.

I ended up buying an aluminum pan & checked it with a straight edge. I took it to work & taped a piece of sandpaper to the table (3" thick steel) & sanded the surface years ago. No problems

I have to disagree with the never use RTV statement. Newer OEM oilpan and transmision seals are just that RTV sealer. Well sort of not exactly RTV but a product called the RIGHT STUFF. Works great been using this product for 3 years now with no returns for leaks or clogs.

I'll agree with clevlandstyle, useing ATV in a tube can become a problem when the mating surfaces squeeze together. If you have a little to much on an given area it squeeses into the pan breaks off, little pieces are then introduced into your tranny. It's not that the ATV degrades with the type of tranny fluid used it's just you increase your chances of screwing up the tranny if it was to break off. I guess if that the risk you want to take then I say good luck. personnaly I thinks it's easier to get a new gasket, or pan and not have to worry aboult rebuilding your tranny. Just my 2 cents.

Here's how I seal ours - clean and flatten the pan surface, then I use a very, very THIN coating of something like Hylomar - really just enough to stick the gasket. Put the pan on the bench with the gasket down and some weight on it until the sealer takes a good hold. You can use RTV, but user VERY LITTLE. So thin you can hardly tell any is on there, then let it set for an hour or so. If you can find a flat trans pan gasket, you can really skip all this. When I get them local (in a pan/filter kit) they come out of the box looking like orgami.

To put the pan on the trans, clean the gasket surface with brake cleaner. Get it good, clean and dry then install the pan/gasket DRY, no sealer.
