Is a \'67 I6 C4 junk?

Is there enough good parts in one to rebuild it. Will "good" servos bolt in? I've read they have fewer clutches. What parts limit the room for clutches in these? Are the cases the same? Should I throw it away? I'm making about 400fwhp with a 351w and want to build a back up for the trans in it now of unknown mileage.

Case will be fine, servo's will swap in.Depending on the forward clutch + high/reverse drums where the snap ring grooves are cut depends on how many clutches will fit. You'd want 5 in the fwd and 4 or 5 in the hi/rev.
IMO 400 hp is about the limit since it will have a small 24 spline input shaft unless the car is fairly light but then JustJim on here has been running a couple these trans in a falcon and a morris and has no probs. .Not many places make a convertor for 24 spline.

I agree with Greg. 400hp is a good cap for the 24 spline shaft. I have had pretty good luck with them and would not insist you need a 26 spline shaft. I do recommend you use a 70- C4 output shaft. It has longer splines where it engages the fwd planet. Make sure the splines in the planet arent already worn. Very common on these early units. We make 24 spline converters in most any stall if you need one.
