24 spline input shaft

Hey guys, this is a great forum, I have been wading through all the great information for the last couple of days, but I still have one question:

How much hp/torque will a 24 spline safely handle?

I am making between 350 and 375hp and about as much torque. I'm heading to the u-pick-it yard and I'll pick up the 26 parts if the 24 won't stand up. btw its a 67 c-4. Thanks

IMO it will handle that ok but i'd say it's at its limit. If you plan more engine later now would be a good time to upgrade.

The weak link of the early C4 isn't the input shaft but the output shaft. The '70 and up output shaft has longer splines which will fully engage the planetary splines preventing them from stripping out.

What other parts do I need to it change tailshafts, or are the shafts interchangeable? Thanks for the great info.

No need to change the tailshaft housing, just the output shaft. I got mine from a used trans parts place and lined up the longer one with the old shorter one to make sure all the c clip grooves, etc. lined up.My main reason for using the 24 spline unit was not wanting to replace the high $$$ converter if going to a later 26 spline trans. Take a look at this post for more info: http://www.fordmuscle.com/phpBB/view...44957&forum=13
