C4 issues, please help

ok, here is a summary of my issues.

Tranny is in a limited use car, working on putting the finishing touches on it now. Tranny has seem limited use, so I dont have much in terms of prior operating.

-first off, tranny seemed to be working fine a few weeks ago. Hesitant on the 1-2 shift, but I hadnt fine tuned the shifter linkage. Did that yesterday before I took the car up and down the street.

-Not sure if the tranny is even starting in first. Assuming it is, it wont shift into second. Doesnt seem to respond to any gear selection at all, as a matter of fact (forward gears only).

-Sometimes (most times) when moving the shifter to second, the wheels lock. Same with first gear selection. Not ALL the time, but probably 90% of the time. Car is sluggish and seems to fighting hard to accelerate from a stop.

-Reverse works fine. Is responsive and shifts hard from park or nuetral. Shifter works great when finding P, R, or N.

-Manual valve body, no vacuum modulator. I was told it was not needed.

In a nut shell, the car will go forward in whatever gear it starts in (not sure which that is), doesnt seem to shift at all, and if it does repond to user input (shifter) tires lock and car stops.

What is wrong? I played with it all yesterday with no change. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like maybe a leaking valve body?
You sure it's a manual valve body?
Is shift pattern , reverse? (non-stock)
Have you adjusted the bands?
Also sounds like could be tight bands?
2 gears at once when trying to shift.
Sounds like forward and reverse clutches engage.
So i would look to leaking, sticking valve body.

pretty sure it is a manual VB. I will be pulling the tranny to make sure next weekend. Could I have done any damage to the transmission? I repeated the above procedures many times to make sure I knew what was happening...

Do not think you have hurt it. Smell the fluid to see if it smells burnt.

well, found out a couple of the valves were really sticky (had to use a pliers to remove some of them) and that one of the solenoid valves didnt even have a spring!

Anyone know of where to get a forward pattern manual valve body?
