shifts to fast

I just had a my c4 rebuilt and everything is great except that when I take off and keep my foot in the gas it wants to shift from 2nd to 3rd real fast. If I drive it normal it seam to me that it could stay in 2nd gear a little longer.
78 c4 with a shift kit
thanks
Brett

What speeds is it shifting with light throttle pressure? What speeds does it shift at when you hold half throttle? What speeds does it shift at when you hold the throttle to the floor?
What kind and type of shift kit did you install in the tranny when it was rebuilt?
With light throttle and a stock tranny you will get a 1-2 shift at about 6 to 10 mph and a 2-3 shift at 15 to 20 mph depending on the governor that you have and the modulator.

With the engine off - hold the throttle wide open while you hold the kickdown linkage all the way against the stop in the tranny. You should have .060" clearance. If that adjustment is correct then pull the vacuum line off the vacuum modulator (at the right rear of the tranny if you were sitting in the drivers seat) and with a small (3/16") screwdriver turn the screw in (clockwise) two turns. Put the vacuum line back on and drive the car to see how it shifts for you now. You can use that adjustment to shift higher or lower under light and medium throttle conditions but you should never turn the screw more than a total of 4 turns in either direction. you can also remove the extension housing an the governor. disassemble the governor large valve and using a lathe and tool post grinder bore a 1/4 inch hole in the back of that spool approximately 1/4 inch deep. That will raise the shift point at wide open throttle about 500 rpm. If light throttle shifts are all that bother you then you can remove the modulator and pin and fabricate a pin that is .060" longer than your original pin. Reinstall and see how you like that.
