when I got it back it sat in the car frame for one year as I finished to the point I could start the motor and check it all out
When I shift it now it runs

in 2 position it shifts first second and third
in 1 position it shifts low only what has happened and what do I need to get it right

Re: 1968 C4 trans from mustang

By the sound of that you have an earlier valve body installed.

That is how the famous green dot body works.
You should have a select shift type.
D position has 3 gears.
2 has 2nd only.
1/L is low only.
P is pass.
R is race.
N is nuttin.
