Bell housings

I think I've found an FMX with a big block bell attached to it at one of the local junk yards. Now providing I'm right, will I have any trouble bolting it on to a C4? I want to swap the 302 in my 72 Gran Torino out for a 400 without too much in the headache department so any and all advice would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Bell housings

You need to look for a C4 in a 77-78 T-bird or other big car with a 351M.

I'll make sure to double check it against the other trannies that they have there.

FMX bell is attached to the transmission with 4 bolts.

C4s use 7 if attached using the pump bolts or 5 bolts otherwise.

There is only one big block bell that fits a C4, and it will ONLY bolt to a C4 with the dipstick in the pan. It will not bolt to a C4 having a dipstick in the case.

Re: Bell housings

Unless you go to an aftermarket BB to C4 bell they fit on the pump bolts on any C4 case.
