c-4 kick down "locked up"

Hi all, this is my first post i have been a FM subscriber for 2yrs now or so and have not had to many questions as of yet, my father is a ford nut with a 1966 mustang gt convertible and a 1962 falcon sedan delivery, I inherited the Ford love I have a 1969 ford falcon with a mexican blocked 302 someone swapped into it, it has from what i can tell a removable bellhousing c-4 but the kick down linkage is a little strange looking compared to the pictures i have found in the c-4 sticky's. maybe its a c3 or a c5? my time aloted before it got dark prevented me from pulling any numbers or anything.

I was playing around and came accross the fact my gas pedal would not go to the floor and would not open the 4barrel but half way, so i started researching it and came accross my kick down linkage(metal bar going down the fire wall, to a small 6" wire connected to the tranny) so i poped that off and had the wife push the throttle(it went all the way open like it should) so i tried to move the kick down linkage and its stuck like it was welded in spot.

i guess my question is....is there supposed to be line pressure before that thing moves?(every tranny i can think of doesnt need it) and if no then what could be the problem?

any help would be greatly appreciated

When the valve body was installed the lever and valve may have been out of position. Check it with the engine off and see if the lever moves and returns with the internal spring pressure. If it won't move with the engine off it is most likely that you will have to remove the pan and valve body to fix it. It might be a good time to put in a TransGo shift Kit. You order it by the year of the transmission.

Re: c-4 kick down "locked up"

paul, thank you it does not move with the engine off. I doubt i will pull the pan and valve body though, i wont be driving it much before i get my garage built, i was just curious as to what could be wrong. after i build my garage its getting an 88 mustang 5.0/aod swap into it.

thank you for the info though

No problem - The guy that sold it probably got rid of it after trying to make it work.
