Re: these c4s?

thru a bit more investigation I found out that it isnt a DP but an OP I think which indicates a fairlane or torino. Which fairlanes/torinos had C4/c5/c6/fmx transmissions lol.

Re: these c4s?

Ford used default codes for items that were used in multiple vehicles and not specific to a particular one. The OP code was one and used on most C4's with the exception of specific van/truck versions that used TE. Your D0 is for 1970 series and D4 for 1974 series, but could have been (and were) used for several years since the revision.

These are not valid numbers for any Ford part. I suspect that they are case casting numbers off of an automatic transmission. If they are what I think they are then they are casting numbers off of a C4 case.

Ford, according to their own definitions, does not have any basic TRANSMISSION part numbers starting with '7' (for transmission parts) that are 5 numerals long, e.g. '70006' does not exist for any transmission part. Either the number after the '7' is a letter or you have otherwise misread or mistranscribed it somehow. All Ford basic numbers for transmission parts follow the format of '7nnn' or '7annn'. Also, by their definition, the first character of the suffix must be a letter, not a number, so the '6' cannot be part of the suffix and therefore must be part of the basic part number. Neither can the basic part number start with a '0' because by Ford definition all transmission basic part numbers must begin with a '7'.

It IS possible that '70006' is correct for some OTHER part on the vehicle, but not a transmission part. In this case the number breaks down to '70' for the family that contains the part with the '006' being the actual type of part. Bottom line is that '7' designates transmission parts while '70' does not.

Unless you have the correct numbers, anything anyone tells you is suspect. I suggest verifying your numbers.

Re: these c4s?

well I plan to inspect these before I buy them and from the info im reading it seems the c4 and c6s are an aluminum casting while the fmx is an iron casting. The C4 trans pan is mostly square while the c6 has a larger with a different configuration.

Re: these c4s?

The C4 is all aluminum with a removable bell.
The C6 is a BIG all aluminum with the bell cast on.
The FMX is a cast iron case with a removable aluminum or cast bell and an aluminum extension housing.
The C4 has a small almost square pan
The C6 has a very large squarish pan with a corner cut out.
The FMX has a medium size rectangular pan with a notch out of it.
C4 weighs 100 pounds or so
C6 weighs 180 pounds or so
FMX weighs 150 pounds or so

I have never seen an FMX with a cast iron bell. What applications used it?
