You shift gears with your right foot planted firmly on the floor. It helps to have A) quick reflexes and hand/foot coordination B) a spare tranny and C) a rev limiter

Only if you can't drive a standard ! I switched my car from Standard to AUTO and lost 2 tenths . Both my 60 foot and 1/4 mile time was slower . If you are going to run a standard and granny shift then you should run a Auto.

Re: Manual Trans: Powershifting, could you explain?

"Power shifting" is done just as the power curve allows the gears to lose preload as you stabthe clutch pedal and slide off of it. As was stated earlier your right foot holds the pedal to the floor.
Anyone who loses time when switching from a standard to an auto either is a shifting machine or has a poorly prepared combination for the automatic. Your auto 60 foot times should go down and the transmission should shift at least as fast as a powershift in a well prepared auto. The auto will also be much more consistant.
