c4 neutral is a forward gear now..

just put my c4 back together, it got new seals, bushings, clutches, bands.. and a park pawl (yes, i broke that) and 3000 stall converter, its in an 84 notch with a 351w... anyways, i didnt open the valve body, its a manual shifting valvebody and shifted GREAT when i tore the transmission down, so i didnt take it apart.. well, now it appears to be in gear when i put it in neutral..reverse works good, it shifts into drive gears but seems to sound like its dragging? i adjusted my bands according to the trusty haynes book... but neutral isnt neutral! i thought i was having trouble adjusting my shifter cable but thats not the case, and i have the linkage inside hooked up right.. reverse is reverse, park is park, and well, it hasnt been off the jackstands.. can my vb have a valve sticking? should i take the vb out and tear it down?

Hasn't been off the jackstands??????? The wheels will always turn in neutral on stands with the motor running, it just sort of freewheels with some drag within the trans.

ha! i didnt know, i sure didnt want to wreck my transmission! ive managed to do enough damage as it is.. this site has been very helpful to me! ill readjust my cable, stick it back in and see how it runs.. its flooding here in iowa, we are awfully busy..
