Re: C4 towing overheating...Cooler flow tests?

Whew... Yup with that kinda staging I bet you make heat.

I have been lucky. My "cooling" setup has sorta been cobbled together.
The electric fan i found in the mud at the bone yard really cools well and fits my stock radiator perfect.
Between it and the electric water pump i am able to bring down temps fast.
And i forgot to say my "hot laps" are 1/8 mile runs.

Towing under load with the direct hub engaged and creating heat is
I would think is not as hard on the tranny as "hot" tranny power shifting through the gears.

I was wondering if maybe airflow was part of the problem.
Is it possible the air is damming in front of the radiator?

Re: C4 towing overheating...Cooler flow tests?

I don't feel that airflow is the issue on the Bronco. The tranny coolers are the first thing in the airflow, and the rad which is mounted behind that seems to be doing fine, as I had no heat problems at all with the engine and it has a stock Ranger w/A/C rad in it cooling a hard working 5.0L.

I am pretty sure the whole source of the heat is the torque converter, there is very little else to make heat when not shifting in direct. And anything that would make that kind of heat in the transmission itself would not last the whole trip.

The ranger simply needs more cooler and fan to control transmission temps during that kind of abuse.

Let me ask something,
Are you running Kevlar or carbon bands and clutches? Are you running a synthetic oil? (Mercon V or other)
