I need advice (c4)

First off let me say this is an awesome site!! Lots of info..

My question is I have a PA supercomp c4 and Im having trouble keeping high gear clutchs in it. We have had alto blues and reds and all have only lasted around 100 miles or so. The guy that rebuilds them for me is a backyard type guy and I dont think he does all the stuff I have read about on this forum.
My car is making over 800rwhp so I was wanting to know if it was the setup or am I at the limit of the clutches in the c4. It has 6 high clutches. Thanks alot.

You are no where near the limit of the C4. Your builder is just not experienced enough to know that it can hold more clutches than 6. What mods have been made to the valve body, case, stator, pump and servo?

The original one lasted along time but that when I was making 550 rwhp. Since I have changed setup and making more power is when it has been acting up.

There is more than few people who can make suggestions but unless your tranny builder will take the advice and know what to do with it the advice may be a waste.
I would look at the pump, sealing rings on drum support, lip seals in direct clutch, end play, servo seals etc etc.
How does the tranny work, most importantly does the rpm flare on the 2-3 shift. At 800 hp that flare is a death sound.

Tranny works great shifts good and firm, and no flare but it will just melt the high gear clutches and weld them together. Is there anybody in my area that is capable of building this tranny to spec.

You need to be running teflon sealing rings on the stator support and replace the direct clutch apply piston seals. You also probably need to run more clutches and higher pressure than the transmission was originally set up with. I would say 200 to 210 PSI. At that power level it should also be all roller thrust bearings with end play set between .004" and .006" total.

How much nitrous are you running?
blower?
