Any of you guys convert to E85 yet?
Any of you guys convert to E85 yet? I am running a blow carb, with a Vortech YSi supercharger, and was going to use meth injection, but decided to just convert to E85 for the added cooling, and 105 octane. Looking for a starting point on jetting. I got a set of E85 mettering blocks fron Quickfuel, and am ready to start next week.
Input?

200 miles to the nearest E85 pump. so no. I'd call QF and get a recommendation from them.

E-85 is 105 octane? Wow I did not know that, I have heard that it is corrrosive, What do you run for fuel lines and such. There is a station within 20 miles of me that sells E-85 and it is cheaper than reg gas and much cheaper than the ultra-94 that I currently run.

There was a low nine second Nova at Rock Falls Raceway (Wi.) in October that ran on E85. Bruce

Re: Any of you guys convert to E85 yet?
I have been gathering information on E85 for some time. I knew it would be a good option for when I added a supercharger. I have talked to Quickfuel several times in the last week, and added some information to my E85 folder.
I decided to add a E85 Information page to my project page. Here is the link.
Using E85 in Non Flex Fuel Vehicles
I have dual wide band O2 sensors on the car, so tuning should be pretty easy using them, and reading the plugs. I will get it out and do some testing next week.

All alcohol is hygroscopic, so yes it's "corrosive". So is Methanol. Use a good top lube and keep water out of the system and there will be fewer problems.

Ethanol*
Don't BS when it comes to alcohol - vapors above alcohol will ignite at ambient temps (unlike gas and diesel) and it requires more care in handling and storing. It ain't magic, just a fuel with different properties.

Re: Any of you guys convert to E85 yet?
Safety characteristics: Ethanol, in general, has a higher flash point than gasoline, thus posing less risk. At low temperatures (32 degrees), E85 vapor is more flammable than gasoline vapor, but E85 vapor is less flammable at higher temperatures. The lower vapor pressure and lower heat of combustion of E85 reduce risk of fire compared to gasoline. In the event of a fire, the flame is less bright than a gasoline flame, but is visible in daylight.

Re: Any of you guys convert to E85 yet?
Hey guys
E85 is 102 octane and is 85% ethanol and 15% gas...
Make sure to keep rubber fuel lines to a minimum and check often. If your running braided lines its a good idea to check them once in a while. Cant hurt!
Because I live in CA and E85 hasnt made it to to many stations, Im in the process of building my own still to brew my own ethanol. I have the permit and plans and some of the materials for the Charles 803 still.
Here is a the site for the still and alot of Ethanol info. Make your own Fuel
cheers
Charlie
