Re: Racing The Datsun Tonight. Hope it Slows Down.
So what did the NHRA rule book have for 1/8 mile roll bar requirement?
If I didn't feel the Datsun was safe running without a 'bar then I wouldn't be racing it. Back a few years ago when the roll bar requirement was 11.99/7.49 my Falcon ran a few 7.30's before the fine folks at Irwindale asked me to slow it down or don't come back without a roll bar. The Falcon seems safe to me also and didn't go back to Irwindale until the 'bar requiremnt was lowered to 7.25. The Irwindale tech guys wouldn't let either car run if it wasn't safe to them.
Chris:I'm pretty sure in a heads up race the Datsun would out run your moredoor Falcon but you would probably win the race do due to a better reaction time.Hey,I'm older than you and don't cut the lights like a few years ago.

Re: Racing The Datsun Tonight. Hope it Slows Down.
They Revised the rules to 11.50 for a cage a few years back.
Get your self a rule book, it pretty cheap and good to have.
I'd invest in a cage and stop trying to slow down..... Let that thing run !!!

defree:Roll bar requirement(1/4 mile) 11.49,roll cage requirement 9.99. Big difference between a bar and a cage.

Re: Racing The Datsun Tonight. Hope it Slows Down.
Your required to have an 8 point "Bar" at 11.50 and it will take you to 10.0 with additional upgrades on the car. Belts, SFI engine Parts, Trans Blanket, Ect.

I'll have to look - I think it was 7.35 for 1/8 mile.

You might get it out of the hole, but I'll reel you in on the top LOL. That's what I love about both 351Cs we have - they really haul on the top end and that makes it hard for an opponent (either fast or slow) to judge the stripe. Once in a while I get paired with Debbie's Mustang - just when you think you'll catch it, you're not. If we both get decent RTs, we have to drive each other to the stripe to find out who wins.
Work that tree, buddy! I'm only 51 - my Dial for Dollars run on Saturday was a 7.34 dial, RT was .005 car clocked 7.3395. Dammit.

Hey Jim. You don't know me from Adam; but I've been watching your runs at Irwindale. All I can say is,"Nice clean ride, nice smooth runs, a little bit on the sleeper quiet exhaust note side , and if you see a guy with a clean blue\ blue '89 Mustang 'vert in the staging lanes- you found me".

Hey Anthony,Glad you like the junk yard refugee Datsun. Next time out should be next week. If you see me in the lanes sleeping in the sleeper waiting to make a run come say hi. What's the blue convert run?

Re: Racing The Datsun Tonight. Hope it Slows Down.
Hello Jim, would you like to go faster ??If you do the roll bar thing, give me a call. I would consider a little sponsorship engine hopup stuff. I am in Orange County, near Disneyland. Think about it.

Re: Racing The Datsun Tonight. Hope it Slows Down.
Roll bar mandatory in all cars running 7.00-7.35. 6.99 or 135 MPH requires a cage. Convertibles get a bar at 8.25.
Asking a drag racer if he'd like to go faster - LOL, like asking a fish if they like water. But I know how he feels - I'd have to think about it a bit before I decided to run under that 6.99 mark. Mostly because I don't care to push my equipment past it's safety/reliability levels. Those upgrade expenses would have to figure in for any push to a lower ET level. But still - when you run a 8.10 you start thinking that a 7.99 is just RIGHT THERE and then you run a 7.26 and, well a 6.99 is just not that far off, uh.....
