Re: What do I get when I make 20+ more HP?
With the MPH @ 118, I don't think you have the power for 10's but you definetly have mid to low 11's in your sites. Once you start getting it to hook you ET will come down and you probably loose some MPH.
Are you running a spool? How bad is it spinning?
What RPM are you leaving at?

Re: What do I get when I make 20+ more HP?
I agree dfree383 and my goal certainly isn't that lofty, but it is nice to have a well know SS national, multi-year recordholder giving me some encouragement on a different site to that effect. It would require much more experience than I currently have.
My goal is (and alway has been) pretty simple. Hit consistent mid 11's. If I get it all figured out and the car goes faster, then I'll slow it down and in the process make it more streetable--first with different gears which would make the car even more streetable. All the while I want to maintain a mid 11 time slip. If I got a good deal on a TKO or some other tranny with OD, then I would work it a different way.
I am not running a spool, just the Detroit True Trac. Until I increased the jet size, I was getting off the line at 4500 with some spin. Once I went up 3 jet sizes, I had to drop to 3900, which was still spinning off the line, and it was pretty squirrelly with full acceleration in 2nd and 3rd gears. Not just a little, it wanted to dart unless I left off the gas--the rear was pushing. Obviously the motor hasn't been fully tuned yet and total timing is still setting at the 32 degrees that I use on the street.
I felt it wasn't safe at the time and put it on the trailer. I expect (and hope) the new, wider tires will make an overall improvement in both traction and driveability. I've ordered the 26/10x15's MT Drags and will be running them tubeless this weekend.

Re: What do I get when I make 20+ more HP?
I thinking you need
1) Find a decent middle of the road Clutch Setting
2) Work on your shock settings / Tire Pressures / Springs, Sounds like something is unloading to soon or not loading correctly. Have you tried some ballast yet? Have you Scaled the car?
3) Maybe work on Ignition Timing / Carb Set-up, Alot can be done with electronics now days.

Re: What do I get when I make 20+ more HP?
Congrats on your newfound mph Dennis! It's always nice to see that your engine mods are doing what they are supposed to do.
It is pretty amazing to me that you are gaining 28mph from the 1/8 to the 1/4!! I've never seen a n/a car of that speed do that. It is usually the turbo cars or higher hp cars. Mine has always been around 20 mph and usually less until I ran my best time last month in which I gained 21mph.
I hope you get it all figured out soon though because you definitely have the HP for low 11's.

Thanks Vinyl!!!
Yeah, I was pretty amazed at the gain. In total I have 4 time slips with huge gains in the far eight. Two were 28mph and 2 were 29mph--other full runs were 25+mph.
Stuff like this makes me entertain the thought of swapping to an automatic to get the first eight in check too . . . . .
Here is a track photo from Saturday--too bad they didn't catch when the front wheels were in the air:
Not too bad on the weight transfer, if I do say so myself.
Good ole burnout pic. Decided this year to loose the horse, the foglights, and a horn for front end weight savings:

Re: What do I get when I make 20+ more HP?
Nice pictures and I like the new look. I really do think you have a potential 10 second car. Right now you don't quite have the mph like was mentioned. But, I'm sure you could get there once you get the tune dead on, go to a lighter set of drag rims, figure out the clutch, powershift, find the shift points the new combo likes, and get the first 1/8 figured out.

Thanks Nate--with the new slicks I should be ready to tackle all those areas this year, except the drag rims. Running those heavy Magnum 500's is what sets my car apart from the other early cars at our track and it also goes in line with my "sleeper persona." I am going to accept the performance hit for now. I do plan to switch to a lighter front tire sometime this summer.

Re: What do I get when I make 20+ more HP?
Your launch pics are great! I would love to be able to lift a tire on launch. Or just get a pic of my car launching would be a good start.
Dennis, are you running a carb spacer? If so, what size and type?
I ask because my Vic Jr is pretty tall under the stock flat hood but I think
I may be able to fit a 1/2" spacer of some type under there.
I dig the look of the empty grill. I did the same to mine years ago.

Re: What do I get when I make 20+ more HP?
You where talking about your clutch being a 1250#?
Typical performance Clutchs range from 2100# to 3200#, You may want to look into that.

His uses a sintered iron disk, and they aren't your 'typical' clutch. They work with low base pressures, and actually grab better with heat. This allows them to slip a bit on the line for traction, then grab for the rest of the ride down the track.
