driveshaft loop placement

Does anyone know for sure what the measurement is for placing a driveshaft loop?...I seem to remember it being 6 inches back from the front universal?

Re: driveshaft loop placement

We just installed one in our coupe and the instuctions said to intall it 4" rearward of the front universal. We went through tech at Pacific Raceway yesterday and the inspector was fine with it.

To be certain you could check the NHRA rule book.

p206-207 2007 NHRA rule book, section 16 2:4 "In place of a crossmember, in the vicinity of the front universal joint, all cars in competition using open driveshafts must have a retainer loop 360 degrees of enclosure, 1/4-inch minimum thickness and 2 inches wide, or 7/8-inch x 0.065-inch welded steel tubing, securely moounted and located within 6 inches of the front universal joint for support of the driveshaft in event of U-joint failure." It also has a nice sketch.

Re: driveshaft loop placement

Hmmm, my X-pipe is VERY close as well.. but I managed to slide the competition engineering loop in within the 6" allowance.
Funny, cause your X pipe sounds like mine... there is no way that DS is coming down with the exahust installed.

The rule is pretty specific - don't blame the Tech people.

Re: driveshaft loop placement

ARE you going to tell me that my car is going to crash because the loop is 6.5 inches from the u-joint . The guy was just playing an athority game .If it was a safty thing i would have no problem with it , I have had more serious problems with my car than that before and was told make sure to fix it before the next race .
