Re: Lost a Motor last night.
Man that sucks!!!!!!! Load up it up, drop it in his driveway and yell "what the F**&!!!!!" except in nice way.
Did he measure the pushrod length? I see 1.6 rockers on the cam sheet did you or Bliss move to 1.7's by chance?
I know Bliss has good rep, but it should have lasted a lot longer than that.
Pete

Re: Lost a Motor last night.
I didn't want to speculate, but I think a good guess is the piston to valve clearance was not set properly. Perhaps it was a mistake in calculations or build. You probably got a tad of valve float during a burnout and that's all she wrote. I say that because you observed more than one stuck valves, which would seem to indicate multiple valve failures.

Re: Lost a Motor last night.
Or, the stem clearance was too tight. Running iron guides with tight clearance will do that. Depends on the materials used in the valves and the guides. Last set of heads that I had rebuilt where the shop used a reamer hung open an exhaust valve. That was a shop in Houston that was supposed to know what was right, being that they had Top Fuel blocks with prominent names on the tags.
The shop I use now hones the guides to get the clearance. If If your builder used a reamer and it hadn't been checked for size in a long time, that would do it.

Re: Lost a Motor last night.
Hi Pete,
We were running 1.6 rockers.
I just got in from pulling the motor out.
I pulled the heads and found that every
exhaust valve was bent. And #2 hole has been destroyed. I will wait to talk to Dave before pulling the bottom apart.
I just hope the crank survived.

Re: Lost a Motor last night.
Are the pushrods bent too or just valves? I still the rods were long.

Re: Lost a Motor last night.
Six were bent. We did have the correct length PRs the witness marks on the valve stems
were dead centered. They were Smith Bros 8.300" I have some pictures I would post but I struggle with posting anything to this site.
We speculate that the springs were not enough, or the cam moved? I don't know how though.
This engine would hit the 7000 RPM chip in an instant. Brooke was shifting at 6600 last time out?

Greg,
If you've bent all the exhaust then check the p/v clearance. 100 thousands is the minumin you can run. I'd have them check that clearance, if the cam slipped or your floated the valves a few intakes would have ended up bent. You may need to flycut the pistons. Do you have a witness marks on the piston tops other then a hole?
I'd drop of the heads and block to the builder and start working a deal.
Good luck.
Jeff
