Rained out :-(
As expected (due to the weather reports all week) our Friday night races were rained out. For those who keep up with my posts, due to work obligations I won't get back to the track as a participant until mid to late June. The down time will give me the opportunity I need to drop the pressure plate out and send it to Ram for its counterweight modification.
To make this post educational and somewhat worthwhile, I'll include some pics the Hot Not brand Nomex sleeves that I WILL BE WEARING the next time that I am messing around hot headers. (I received a nasty 2nd degree burn last week--it is healing nicely.) These sleeves are good for a constant 500 degrees, 700 degrees intermittently handled materials, and for accidental contact up to 1300 degrees. They have the bag lady type holes that allow me to use my fingers for sensitive operations and they are cotton lined for comfort.
These were donated by a good friend after he saw my injury.
*NOTE: No hand models were injured in the filming of these pictures:

Might that be at Maple Grove? I'm on their mailing list and live in Delaware county. Maybe someday I'll see you at the Grove.

Re: Rained out :-(
Although I would certainly like to meet you PaceFever, the track that I frequent is Beaver Springs Dragway which is located to the northwest of Harrisburg. It is a 1/4 mile Summit/IHRA track that is frequented by most of us in the middle of the state.

Re: Rained out :-(
Rained out: I feel your pain! Not the pain from the burns either. No races this weekend for me either. Tomorrow there is first-ever bracket race at a local "street car only" drag strip about 30 min from here, and I will probably go check it out--in my Lightning. It'll be weird not racing my Mustang or Maverick but I need the seat time no matter what car/truck/bike/atv it is. Practice is what keeps you keen! Last weekend I runnered up in the Maverick in the footbrake class at the "other" dragstrip and went 2 rounds--footbraking--in the electronics class against cars that were running 4.50's at 160+ (I was dialed at 6.91...LOL). But it was just too much work running 2 cars, especially considering the problems I was having with the Maverick. First a shorted wire doing to the water pump. Got that fixed, then noticed the right rear tires was going down. Plugged that, got it back on, and noticed that the brake pad was coming out on the left rear brake. One thing after another, but I still managed a runner up. New tires were installed this morning. Tomorrow and/or monday, I gotta fix the wiring. Then next weekend if nothing breaks on the Maverick, Gotta bring dad's fairmont home to look at the chassis....it's leaving funny, and very inconsistent. Looks like either the housing is bent or the the rear suspension has some sort of problem.
But the good news is that I went & bought a pair of those 2 layer nomex gloves like you got, Dennis. I figured it might save a burn or two the next time I have to work around a hot motor. It's much easier to learn from someone else's mistakes than to have to go through it yourself
