Re: timing on 306

14 initial and 34 total, all in by 2500 rpm. More of a beefed up street motor though.

Re: timing on 306

26 Initial and 35 Total comming in fast at 2400 RPM's.

Really depends on your heads, comp ratio and fuel type.

Using Cast Iron Stock, or aftermarkets?

Stock heads or fast burn?

Street engine: 351C 4Vstock heads - We run 36 degrees total with 12 on the crank 24 in distribitor all in at 2500

Drag motor: 408C 4V worked heads: 40 degrees total, 22 on crank 18 in distributor all in at 2000 rpm.5500 rpm transbrake

408C with CHI fast burn heads - 28 degrees total, 12 on crank - 16 in distributor all in at 2000. 5500 rpm transbrake

That's what works for us
Jeff

Re: timing on 306

Mine likes 36 total.... all in by 2500 with my MSD.
In my experience 302's like timing... crank it up until it pings and then back off a hair.

Re: timing on 306

on the timing topic, I picked up a used msd billit dist that had the timing locked out. Im guessing leaving it this way for a street/strip car isnt good. I have it stuck at 32* total.

Just a guess, but with your current motor, your probably making atleast 320 HP, depending on your cam and compression.

40 is high for Edlebrock heads.

Adding 175 nitrous, you will probably take out your tranni, your driveshaft and your rear end, and a few rods....maybe burn a piston to two

Rule of thumb is retard 2 to 2.5 degrees for every 50HP shot.... This is a good starting point.

Anything over 125hp you better have some aftermarket rods and bolts and that is just the start..
