Does anyone on here go to Famoso?
I was thinking of making the 120 mile drive from L.A. to the Friday night test and tune at Famoso dragstrip and was wondering how crowded it gets there. Will I be able to get 3-4 runs in? Man, L.A. needs more quarter mile tracks, or should I say at least one.

Re: Does anyone on here go to Famoso?
Hey gas,
I'm from the LA area as well and have considered trying Famoso.
From what i"ve heard, they get upwards of 350 cars at the TNT and you may get three to four runs in.
Compare that to Fontana, I spent an entire Saturday out there and only ran twice on a crappy track to boot. Tech insoection there is a nightmare. It took me over two hours to get through that mess... That's what happens when they allow over five-hundred cars in... I'll think twice about doing that again.
If you go, let us know how Famoso compares ?

I dont know how many runs you can make, But of all the tracks I have gone to in 40 years, we always turned the fastest times at Bakerfield. It was .14 quicker than Carsbad, and two of my fast engine customers say it was a full two thenths faster than Fontana( 9.00 to 9.20 )When I went there the last time, we made about 5 or 6 runs on a friday nite. We could have made another 5 or 6 if we wanted to.

Famoso is 503 feet above sea level. Fontana is 1100 I think.
Im pretty sure this weekend got rained out at Famoso.

Re: Does anyone on here go to Famoso?
I ended up going afterall, kept calling every hour, and yes they were open and the weather was nice. Unfortunately, around 9:30pm they wouldn't let any of the higher horsepower cars with slicks to run, due to a slight wind which was blowing dirt onto the track. I really thought this was unnecessary as it didn't seem that bad, especially compared to the conditions LACR used to get. They did however offer the slick tired cars a free admission to next Friday's TNT.

Re: Does anyone on here go to Famoso?
For me it was worth the journey because I was really anxious to see what my swap was worth at the track and now that summer is almost upon us, the chance of running in cool weather is limited.
Unfortunately, I was only able to get two runs in because the track officials felt the track was too dirty, loose, for the faster slick cars. If that hadn't happened, I'm sure I would have run 4-5 times.
I would have to say 150-200 cars were there Fri., maybe? I did hear from other regulars that it was a fairly light crowd and usually there are more cars.
My advice is to be there when the gates open at 6pm and be in the staging lanes a few minutes before 7pm, when they start running. That way, you'll get a couple runs in right away before it gets real crowded. I enjoy going to Famoso, although this is the first Friday night TNT that I've been to. They've improved the facility alot over the last couple of years and I noticed Friday night that all of the pit area has been re-black topped (it was in pretty bad shape not too long ago).
Almost forgot, the tech inspection was really light, they looked under the hood for a catch can, and then looked at my helmet and that was it! I was a little surprised, especially compared to the street legal events at Fontana where some of the tech guys are really strict. I'm all for safety, but I'm under the impression they think if they don't find something wrong on your car, they feel that they aren't doing their job.

Re: Does anyone on here go to Famoso?
Same thing happened to me, so get in early and it seems worth it from LA. I wont ever do another day run there in the summer, its brutal.
I do have to say that I had a great time at Irwindale, and I thought I would hate it (1/8).
I am signed up for a private day at Fontana next week, has anybody ever tried this?
