Re: Weekend Racing with my son's 67
The majority of the engines I build arefor what I call street racers. Many of them are in the 500 Hp and higher range. I always tell the customer to get a ten inch converter, about 3500 stall. Believe it or not, there are NO PROBLEMS when you do this on high performance street vehicles. I work with TCI transmissions and converters. They told me that this was perfectly OK. You should have at least a big trans cooler, but steady driving below the maximum stall does NOT HURT anything. On serious street carts, I also tell them what gears they should use in the rear end, some pay attention, some dont. I have quite a few guys out there with 3.55 or 3.73 gears and the 3500 stall. It has not been a problem. Besides, you can do REAL COOL BURNOUTS
