tune engine while NOT in car??

if i pull the engine and tune/mess with it in my garage all winter.... without hooking it up to a dyno or something is there anyway that i can tell if it is tuned properly?

... was talking with chilly online and he says "no" ...

is their anyway that i can do this?? i was going to pull the engine and tranny this winter so i could do other stuff to the car... and the engine isn't running good and i would preferably like to tune it while out of car.

Only way to get close is to copy someone elses set-up, then it's only a ballpark job.

Unless you can get a portable exhaust gas analyser to stick up the pipes.
You can get an idle mix set OK and a cruise mix reasonably close.
You really need load.
