What do you have in those heads (including port work)?--if you do not mind me asking. also, is it a pump gas motor?

Looks like there's a bottleneck that shows itself around 6300 rpm... I believe it would make more power with a Dominator. Those HP carbs don't flow what they advertise.

With more carb, I don't think the power would level off and quit climbing at that point. It might push close to 700hp when you free it up.

It's worth a try!

Good Luck!

I didn't do the head work so I couldn't tell you.

I wouldn't really run pump gas in it. I run 100LL av-gas in it.

How much for your 351C 4V closed chamber heads?

...I guess that I just don't see where it is leveling off. It looks to me like the horsepower keeps climbing relatively steadily to over 7000 RPM. While more time actually spent tuning it could have helped (we put it on the dyno just to get the A/F right and to get the ignition close enough), it made less torque here, as a result of tightening up the lash on this pull, than previous pulls. I figure that with more work, we'd see another 30 HP out of the current combination...but it was like 5pm on a Friday night and 1.55 HP/CI is at least an indication that I didn't forget to put the sparkplugs in.

I think that "trend" that you're talking about in the torque curve starts at 5600-5700 and continues the rest of the way through to 7600. More carburetor may help, but not without an intake manifold under it. I'm not sure where you'd find a Dominator style intake manifold for this particular combination, but I was happy with what I've got. It is, at least in my mind, possible that the camshaft is the limiting factor.

No need to wish me luck with it. I'm probably going to be selling it soon to make way for its big brother. It only has dyno time on it of one afternoon from about 3pm to 5pm and not enough tuning (6 pulls) to do anything more than to make sure that it won't rattle under load and that the A/F is rich enough to remove concern.

As you can see from the camshaft profile, compression ratio and other details related to this engine, I'm not really about making maximum power. I just like to be sure that I make a fair bit for what I've got in it and that it stays together without unduly stressing the parts for a very long time.

I wasn't bashing the engine by any means. A 600hp bullet definitely deserves respect! I was just pointing out that the last 1000rpm or so of the powerband was pretty flat horsepower wise...... and that usually indicates something is holding it back. It should have kept climbing like it did earlier in the powerband. A larger carb would be the first thing I would try. Get a Dominator adapter, and try and borrow a carb to see if that picks it up. If it does, you might have found an easy 50hp or so.

Good Luck!

Yeah it might gain some on the top end, but I'm not about to change it at this point. The engine has basically been sitting around since coming off of the dyno last October, so even testing the performance difference would be a challenge...without putting it back on the dyno.

Like I said. I'm not about maximum power. Some people feel a need to get whatever little bit may be left in it. To me, when an engine is done, I'm not going to do anything more to it. I'm definitely not going to put a Dominator atop of it just to see if it can make more power.

I don't think that you're bashing it, but I'm not really looking for advice on how to make more power from it either. Just trying to share the combination and results with others as is indicated by the purpose of this area. There's always something else you can change that might make a bit more power. It is what it is. I appreciate your intentions and I hope you can see my point. When I'm done with an engine, I don't change it, I build another one. It is kind of like an artist painting on a canvas. At some point, you have to quit fiddling with it, call it done and start on a new one. Since coming off of the dyno, I added a 1" 4-hole spacer (that I didn't have a chance to test whilst on the dyno), threw a plastic bag over it and called it done.

I'm building a new Cleveland. It will definitely make more power across the entire RPM range.
