For the 331, AFR 185s are perfect from my experience. 15/8" primaries to stepped up 1 3/4" secondaries, equal lenth 36" to collector gives awesome HP. This combo in an early mustang beats Vettes and Vipers. See the dyno results at AFR small block Fords.

I could be wrong, but it would seem that you would make more power with the AFR 165 heads. I thought the AFR 185 heads would more benenficial for 400 cubic inches and higher.
Are your dyno #'s at the rear wheels?? If so that's some really good #'s.

I thought I'd update my April '05 dyno results. Last week I took the car back to the same shop that dyno'd it in April. Since April, I put Stan's Headers tri-y's, 2 1/2" pipes and Magnaflow mufflers on the car. N20mike was right about a better exhaust system.
Previous best was 351rwhp and 360rwtq. Last week's results were 382rwhp and 376rwtq. No other changes. Obviously, I'm pleased.

Remember also though bud...air is MUCH cooler now, which means denser. This will also up your power numbers, substantially. However, I don't doubt you gained 15-20hp from the upgrade. Still a killer gain!

For myself and my 347 I'm using Accufab 1 3/4 into 1 7/8 step tubes. Can't wait to get the damn thing finished and get it on an engine dyno. Yes, the rest of the motor IS designed to take advantage of those big mofo headers =p. Should be a blast =).

That depends if the dyno uses actual or corrected numbers. If the output is corrected to SAE, STD, DIN or whatever, the temperature difference 'shouldn't' be a factor.

I should have stated that the numbers I posted were Uncorrected numbers, but the uncorrected HP from the April '05 run was 345rwhp. You are correct about the weather. The air is cooler and denser now so I probably didn't gain as much as the numbers would seem to indicate. I'm still pretty well satisfied, however.
