Project 11.99
Hello,
I have read your entire "Project 11.99" and am I missing something, the numbers don't seem to add up to me.
How can you get a 3280 lb. car down the quarter in 11.98 with only 400 flywheel horsepower? If you use an ET calculator, it should be somewhere around 390 rear wheel horsepower, what am I missing?
The introduction article says the car weighed 3050, what is the difference in weight between the introduction car and the 11.98 run. I thought a 67 mustang was lighter than this?
Just looking for insight on how this can be accomplished.
Greg

With the right weight and chassis configuration, 450 flywheel horsepower will get a car in the tens. So it's rather possible that 400 horsepower would get a car to the high 11's, even at 3200 pounds.

Hi Todd,
Wow, I am amazed!
I just added AFR 165 pro comps to my 289 in a 64 Fairlane, but have not been able to take it to the track this year (live in the Midwest). I am guessing that it will be in the 370-390 hp range and the weight is close to the same as this Mustang. Just curious on what the potential is, I was hoping to be in the low 13's.
Thanks for your insight.

No...it's about 390 flywheel HP which is only 320-340 rear wheel power and you're in the 11's with a 3250 lb race weight car.
But if you're surprised that your doesn't run 11's on that much power you need to look to chassis and traction and things like converter/clutch launch RPM...

not to be rude but doing that for hp figures is rarely accurate, try to get to a track or dyno so you can run the math on where your car should be ET/HP wise at its given weight, any truck stop will weigh it for you cheap.

Gees, our dynos must be tight, or something is amiss. I had my 3550 pound car (with driver) dynoed at 280 rwhp, then hit the track and managed an 11.90 at 112 mph. Chassis dynoes have never been kind to my car.

Hmmm...since you're from downunder I wonder if you were making 280KW instead which would have been spot-on for 112mph in the 1/4mi (because it's about 380 rwhp).
The mph doesn't lie about the power production. Weight of the car can be fudged... but a chassis dyno on an automatic has been shown to be all over the place. They seem to work great for sticks...

Dyno was definatly in rwhp. I have been on all 3 dynos in our area and all read within a few HP.
Since racing, i have new twin system and x pipe and tuning and max now is 313 rwhp(DTS dyno)
Dyno dynamic ones hate my car
