351w horsepower
I am sure somewhere someone has asked what I am asking, I just have not found it.
I have a 67 fastback that I am putting a 351w into with a 5 speed ( still have not decided on t-5 or tko-600) I want to have 500 rear wheel HP
I don't want to reinvent the wheel, so if anybody has built their 351w and has around 600-625 engine HP, please let me know the set up you went with.
I know I am going to need some stroker kit, I was thinking the 408. I would like to go with a normally aspirated engine but will reconsider that if needed and can find a system that worked well for someone.

What are your rpm limitations? I'm assuming pump gas?
A stock stroke 351 is capable N/A. A stroker would make it easier.
Is there some reason your want a particular horsepower number? Do you have a performance goal, or are you just looking for dyno bragging rights?
All of this will help with getting answers.

500 rear wheel just seems like a really good number for that car.
I am restoring this car to keep and I want it right, don't want to say after I get it done "wish it had more hp"
I think 500 is a good number.
Yes pump gas and must be reliable also. the car is going to be used for street use only.
I want it to have show and go.

Well, just so you're aware...at shows, I almost ALWAYS pass up the 351W/Wstroker converted cars for wicked 8.2 based motors. That's a personal thing...and mostly it's because I like beating UP on the Windsor and Windsor strokers with an early car and a 306/347 combo (my current motor is a 306...and believe me, I had options). Dropping a Windsor into an early car just seems like the 'easy' way out, and not even the most efficient easy way out to boot. Why not build a monster 347 for it? The car will be more balanced, just as reliable, and I can guarantee you, faster, than a comparable 351W. If you're worried about the block, use a Boss block and go with a big bore 363. The price is right, and the durability is there for sure.
It might cost a little more, but the 'cool' factor will be doubled, as will the performance. A 347/363 in an 8.2 deck block is a thing worthy of respect, and just a tiny bit of fear. They flat out fuggin MOVE. A run of the mill 9.5 deck stroker, in my opinion, pales in comparison.
Good luck though, whichever way you choose to go. And if you decide to sell that thing for a reasonable price, lemme know =p.

It boils down to horsepower per cubic inch. You can build two different ci motors with equal performance parts, and spend about the same amount of money on each, so which one is gonna end up with the bigger numbers? A bad ass 306/347 will make more power than a mild 351/393 any day, but thats not really a fair comparison.
Whats this goin in a drag car, street car, somewhere in between?
You're lookin for 1.5 hp/ci with a 400 inch motor, totally doable but you've got to do it right.
Good heads, custom roller cam with a really good valve train, internally balanced, zero deck the block, lightweight forged pistons, piston ring gap set right, big headers, windage tray, compression above 10:1....
