Dyno tested a very mild 460 Ford last week....dyno sheet!

I will post a pic of the dyno sheet tomorrow night, I forgot it at work, but here is the low down:
460 bored .060, stock crank, rods, heavy federal mogul 9:1 pistons.
Balanced internals, Isky mega cam (customer had the cam)280 adv. dur., 232 @.050 with .566 lift on a 108 lobe center.
Heads were mildly ported by me, $400.00 worth to be exact. Intake is the Weiand Stealth dual plane, and on top was a 1/2" open wood spacer and a box stock 950HP carb. We also used Comps beehive springs (#91[img]/forums/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif[/img]. Stock valve sizes were used as well.
This was a jet boat engine, very mild pump gas low maintanance low budget build. Headers were Bassett boat headers.
Engine made 440HP at 5700rpm and 483ft.lbs. of torque at 4200rpm.
Not bad considering the cost in it vs. power.
Just thought I'd share this...it was kind of neat seeing what could be had for very little $$$.

What heads?

DOVE castings. Very mild cleanup of the bowls, guide boss and some short turn work.

Seems like the #'s should have been higher using that cam(Isky 280 with a 108 lobe center) and having 460 cubes bored .060 over. Although my grampa's stock 77 Ford 460 put out something like 250hp and his 03 Ford 460 put out 235hp, so your numbers look very good. I'm guessing with better heads the output number would climb. My engine builder just got done building a 427 sideoiler with ported cast iron heads and a 232 degree @ .050 cam that dynoed at 465hp and 500 ft lbs. I guess it all comes down to how much money one wants to put into their engine.

FYI, it takes 400 HP to spin a stock A impeller 5000 RPM, that is if he has a Berkley, Dominator, or American Turbine pump. That engine will never see that 5700 mark again unless he's on the trailer or uses a B/C impeller. Sounds like a solid engine he can run the crap out of all day long.

Awesome torque output for the simple build! Goes to show that the stock heads are worth working on if you are on a budget. Obviously it needs to make that torque where the impeller will spend it's time- imagine that engine in a lightweight like a Falcon, Maverick or Mustang!

I was surprised at how high the HP peak was, but this intake matched with a 950HP and good headers are probably what did it.
This engine cost 2800.00! When I say budget I meant it!!
The heads only had mild work done...everything else is plain jane stock.
And at 9:1 compression, he wont have to worry if he gets some old gas.
One thing I will say is on other engines that we've tested so far, when dyno'ed back to back from 150 degrees water temp to 82 degrees (about what river water temp is) other engines have picked up 20+ HP and 30+ ft.lbs. of torque.
But I dont post those numbers because they don't represent the majority of applications.
For a stock engine with just bolt ons, a small cam and some little head work didn't think the numbers were too bad.

That cool river and lake water is great, espessially when you have a huffer and a super chiller on board.
Did you run it with 36* timing...just curious

We tried 32, 34, 36 and it lost power everytime we advanced it.
We settled on 33 because it made good torque and HP.
Funny you say that, we just did a BB chevy with a 8-71 Blower shop blower and superchiller intercooler. It picked up nearly 40ft.lbs of torque going from 150° temp to 78°.
It's going in a jet boat as well.
