dyno results 418w

I wanted to post and let everyone know how it went. I'll outline the combo 1st then I'll paraphrase the results a little as I don't have a scanner. scat 4340, oliver rods, je pistons. CR 11.03:1. CI solid roller .688/.672 248/262 at .050. Canfield heads ported to 205cc flow 311/225. at lift of cam right around 300 int. Ported victor jr. block cnc machined by keith craft, porting and assembly done at steve schmidt. One caveat is that the dyno would not allow the use of my headers, 1 3/4 fpa headers. Instead they had some pretty smallish 1 1/2 " ones. So, I'm thinking this held me back a little especially as rpms rose. torque peaked right where cam card said it would 557 lb/ft at 4700. Hp peaked at 555.3 at 5600. The card said it should be at 5800. So I'm wondering what I would have picked up with my headers. This motor stayed in the 550's from 5400 to 6000, and at 6100 549.1 6200 543.9. So, needless to say the top end is very, very solid curve, more like a plateau which makes me wonder about the 1 1/2" headers. I also could not use a carb spacer due to hood clearance issues. I was hoping for closer to 600 but overall I'm not too disappointed it sounded angry as hell on the dyno from 4500 on up. Appreciate your opinions, I'm in the process of getting it in the car now will try to post a video in the next week or so.

What brand of camshaft was that ?? what lobe centers is cam ground on?? In reality, it sounds like the headers killed it to me. WHY DID you test with those small headers ?? What size carb was used ??

Re: dyno results 418w

sounds like you've got a real fire breathing dragon. sure 600 would be nice, but so is 555. if i could, i would drive a top fuel dragster to work!!!instead i have to settle for alittle less that 8000 hp.

Re: dyno results 418w

Hi Joe,

Cam is a camshaft innovations, centerline 109 atdc intake, 114 btdc exhaust. Carb is a pro systems said between 840 to 860. Jetting was right on out of the box. The reason I couldn't use my headers is that they hug the block relatively close and they would have hit part of the dyno stand. Pretty much the usual stuff there at schmidt is big block and chevy with the pro stock type headers that come way out but I don't know of a better shop here in town.

Re: dyno results 418w

Thanks for the info. I would say that you MIGHT have 40 or 50 more HP up at the top of your RPM range. On any engine over 400 Hp I use at least 1 & 3/4 inch headers.Did you run on pump gas ? Was it timing sensative ??. Where was the timing on the best dyno pull ??What are you going to use this engine for ?? what kind of car ??What intake manifold did you use ??

Re: dyno results 418w

Timing on best pull was at 40. Had a little trouble getting it to idle so they locked the dizzy. This is a street car/ street machine type engine. Yes it ran on pump gas 93 octance amoco ult. at 36 power was off, mainly down in the 540's. Was told that I needed timing all the time due to the nature of the engine, so we're locked in at 40. Hoping I don't see detonation. Despite the nature of the engine, the car is a 71 ltd convertible that is a blast to drive, a real sleeper type car with c6 and 9". It takes a lot of power to turn the drivetrain and the car is obviously real heavy so then came the engine. I hope to build a daytona kit someday and use this motor, but until then.......I'm on the same page, I figured a 1 3/4 might bump me up into 575 or a little more range, but I definitely don't have the experience you do.

Re: dyno results 418w

My thoughts would be leaning toward a Stealth or RPM intake for such a heavy car.

mild 418 w/stealth

Re: dyno results 418w

Actually I had an air gap but jay allen talked me into a victor jr in spite of car's weight. Several other people agree. allenman has a really good combo and he runs a super victor I believe and says he has power down low. I saw your combo, very nice, still bummed about the small header. I guess I agreed with jay, you are feeding big block inches with a 4.100 stroke so you're going to have very strong lungs where the dual plane really isn't necessary imo. You are still going to have torque everywhere and a better top end. I've got a lot into the roller cam, head work and everything and I personally get all excited from 4500 on anyway. Now to build a racecar for it....

Exactly..the rpm intake does not have enough cross section at the runners to feed this engine. Power would have been down everywhere but maybe below 2000rpm.
