Re: 331 dyno session (part duex)

I think your chasing a ghost with the pump. Eliminate the carb tune by having an expert tune it and then see how it performs. Now you've eliminated the carb as the culprit if it still acts up. Then you can start to consider outside influences like the pump. 110 gph is more than enough for your engine assuming the feed line is OK and the filters and tank are OK. I have a 67 gph holley red electric pump and the stock size feed line to my 331 and it never starves for fuel. Simulations have shown that at max rpm and WOT, the fuel requirements are something like 40 gph.

Try to raise the float level somewhat. A little too low can make a surprising difference. Set the float level so that fuel dribbles out the sight holes without having to rock the car.

If that doesn't help then...

I highly recommend SMI induction in Huntington Beach, Ca to tune your carb. About $200 for Sean to do it for you including better boosters and vacuum secondary improvements. He'll get the right PV in it too. He has done two carbs for me and they have been perfect. Others I know have been very satisfied with his work.

Re: 331 dyno session (part duex)

I am chasing a ghost, its called tuning this carb. If im not getting consistent fuel pressure, then thats going to effect the way the carb is running when the fuel pressure changes. I had to at least check the pump for proper operation.

I dont know anyone professionally around where I live to tune it, nor do I want to pay $200+ to have it done. (Im in Kentucky, Cali would be a long haul for me, haha) I have access to a dyno and use it for free, it provides me with a headache, but at least im not spending money really to do it.

Oh, its a demon carb. No sight holes in the bowls, there are windows with 3 graduation marks on the side, middle and one below and above about 1/8" or so each.

I should have mentioned that Sean at SMI Induction can setup your carb without your car...he does not need it. He will get the carb nuts on. He will ask you to provide engine, trans, drivetrain and car info and then he does his magic...bolt it on and away you go. Much less than bothering with EFI
